This morning I have been preparing an example to show my textile students how to print on fabric with a hand-made stamp. I began by using inspiration from an embroidery hanging in #nordiskamuseet, of horse chestnuts, then I sketched a design with a pencil and began cutting away the space around the leaves and chestnuts. I tested it half way through with some black stamping ink to see where the lines were. Finally, having cut down the square to get rid of excess background which can catch the paint, I did a test print on black paper. When I was satisfied I tested it on black fabric, and then used the stamp to lift off paint on my gel plate, printing a whole rectangle onto the black fabric. Looking forward to seeing my students work tonight! #fabricprinting #mastercut #linoprints #stamping #textiledesign #textilepainting #andersljungstedtsgymnasium #chestnuts #horsechestnut #designinspiration #wsochcompany

A new journal page, again inspired by my Christmas book called “Ärliga Material”. This time I chose the chapter on Wool. I found a magazine cutting with some sheep and used that to sketch from. I used a Derwent Inktense pencil in Sepia Ink, and after applying a layer of Gesso onto the paper and drying it, I started to sketch the sheep. I spritzed some water onto the sketch to dissolve the pencil and then I began to add watercolour in several different browns and greys - Raw Umber, Burnt Umber, Neutral Tint and Payne’s Grey. I love these colours together. For highlights I added some GOLDEN Fluid acrylic in Titan Buff, then painted the background using a stencil and another GOLDEN acrylic High Flow in Sepia. The full two minute video is on my youtube channel ”jacquiholmgren”.
